Jon Stewart Shares Honest Views on Trump and Venezuela

The late-night programs are all returning after the holidays, with a lot to catch up on — especially the U.S. incursion into Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro taking the spotlight.

“Look, nobody knows how this operation is going to pan out, but based on the U.S. history, my prediction is we’re going to feel really good about this for a few weeks, and then 30 years down the line there will be a leftist revolution in Venezuela, and the new administration will cite this moment as the reason our embassy there is ablaze — and it will definitely tarnish a Democrat’s presidency,” remarks Jon Stewart in the Daily Show segment above. “Typically that’s how this sort of thing unfolds. And keep in mind the reason MAGA was so enthusiastic about Donald Trump was that he was the one who wasn’t going to get entangled in this kind of situation anymore.”

A montage follows featuring Trump stating “we do not seek regime change” and “we don’t want to be the world’s policeman,” followed by additional footage of Trump addressing the rebuilding of Venezuela’s infrastructure and governance.

And in terms of the reason behind the incursion? Stewart showcases more clips of Trump repeatedly bringing up the country’s oil.

“We can’t even assume conspiracy theories now!” exclaims Stewart. “I think they did it for the oil! ‘Yeah, no, I did it for the oil.‘”
