Josh O’Connor Takes Center Stage in the Comedy Adventure Trailer for Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind”

Last year, Josh O’Connor captivated critics and audiences alike with his engaging role in the love triangle/tennis drama *Challengers*. This fall, he has three upcoming films: the romantic tale *The History of Sound*, the mystery *Wake Up Dead Man*, and the crime comedy *The Mastermind*, directed by the esteemed writer/director Kelly Reichardt (*First Cow*, *Showing Up*).

Set in 1970s Massachusetts, *The Mastermind* stars O’Connor as J.B. Mooney, a husband, father, and out-of-work carpenter who believes he has the potential to be a master art thief. Despite the rational objections of his wife (played by *Licorice Pizza*’s Alana Haim), J.B. schemes to execute a heist with some friends, likely shaking up his tranquil lifestyle.

Joining O’Connor and Haim in Reichardt’s film are notable actors Gaby Hoffmann, John Magaro, Hope Davis, and Bill Camp. The trailer from MUBI provides a sneak peek of the ensemble’s performance in *The Mastermind* and showcases the praise Reichardt’s comedy garnered at its premiere during the Cannes Film Festival.

Before hitting theaters, *The Mastermind* will debut at the New York Film Festival. Keep an eye on Mashable’s coverage from the festival for top selections and to find out which films to watch for during the awards season.

*The Mastermind* is set to hit theaters on Oct. 17.
