KPop Demon Hunters is gaining significant traction on Netflix. It was recently announced as the streaming service’s most-viewed animated original and the second-highest watched movie on Netflix to date. This weekend, the launch of KPop Demon Hunters: A Sing-Along Event may have marked a historic moment as Netflix’s first top box office hit.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, KPop Demon Hunters overtook the horror movie Weapons during its two-day theatrical presentation, reportedly grossing between $18 million and $20 million. However, given that Netflix does not reveal box office figures, the formal victory is attributed to Weapons, which made $15.6 million, culminating in a total box office of $199.4 million.
The KPop Demon Hunters group HUNTR/X and their supporters are rejoicing. Social media platforms displayed fans flocking to theaters, showcasing cosplays of HUNTR/X characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, along with Saja Boys Jinu, Abby, Mystery, Romance, and Baby featured on TikTok, Instagram, and X. Fans will soon have the opportunity to enjoy the sing-along edition on Netflix’s app starting August 25. In the meantime, captions can act as a temporary fix, even if they do not have the vivid, synchronized lyrics of the theatrical show. With “Golden” hitting #1 on the Billboard charts, many fans may not find the need for extra help.
Kpop Demon Hunters is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
