If you haven’t placed your preorder for the Nintendo Switch 2 yet, there could be another thrilling handheld gaming possibility on the way.
Leaked visuals from what seems to be an FCC product listing indicate that a new Xbox-branded handheld gaming PC is in the works — and it’s said to be a joint effort with Asus. The device was initially found in an Indonesian certification database by 91mobiles, then later emerged in an FCC listing discovered by Videocardz, with images shared by The Verge. It appears that this new handheld is a version of the current Asus ROG Ally, but with a significant enhancement: a button displaying the Xbox logo.
Although the Xbox branding is subtle, it’s clearly apparent in the leaked images.
While the original tweet showcasing the device has since been deleted or is inaccessible, the information continues to circulate. Based on the details available, this seems to be a variant of the forthcoming ROG Ally 2, with the Xbox-branded model acting as a special edition rather than a completely fresh piece of hardware.
Reported specifications from the FCC documentation include a 7-inch 120Hz display and an 8-core AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor — a considerable upgrade from the 4-core CPU found in the standard (white) ROG Ally 2. However, we have not yet been able to independently verify an FCC listing that confirms these precise specifications.
Speculation about an Xbox handheld has been ongoing for a while, but it wasn’t until a recent article from The Verge that we discovered Asus would be the manufacturer behind this initiative. This fits into Microsoft’s broader vision of expanding Xbox gaming beyond conventional consoles.
As The Verge pointed out, the fact that the device is already undergoing FCC certification suggests that an official announcement could be on the horizon. Nonetheless, many uncertainties remain: Will the Xbox-branded ROG Ally 2 operate on a customized Xbox-themed operating system, or will it retain Windows? What purpose does the Xbox button serve — perhaps to launch the Xbox app? Will any differences exist in game compatibility between the black (Xbox) and white versions of the ROG Ally 2?
For the time being, those details remain ambiguous. But one certainty is clear: the device is genuine, and we probably won’t have to wait long to discover more.
