Lenovo Introduces the Latest Legion 9i Gaming Laptop Featuring Glasses-Free 3D Display
Lenovo is grabbing attention once more with the unveiling of its most visually captivating gaming laptop ever. Showcased at Tech World Shanghai 2025, the new Lenovo Legion 9i (Gen 10) is crafted to dazzle both gamers and developers — and it genuinely makes your gaming experience leap off the display.
What sets it apart? An optional 18-inch 4K display upgrade that facilitates glasses-free 3D viewing. That’s correct — no requirement for special eyewear or separate 3D monitors. This state-of-the-art display leverages a mix of eye-tracking tech and a lenticular lens array to generate immersive, three-dimensional imagery that seems to jump off the screen.
Lenovo’s proprietary 3D Studio software enhances this experience, enabling users to view both 2D and 3D content concurrently — either side-by-side or layered. Upon launch, the system will support 30 games alongside a broad spectrum of creative applications.
In terms of performance, the 3D-enabled Legion 9i boasts a Dual Mode display, capable of toggling between a seamless 240Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution and an incredibly swift 440Hz at Full HD. The regular 2D variant consistently maintains a 240Hz refresh rate across all resolutions.
Although glasses-free 3D laptops have been available for some time, this signifies Lenovo’s first consumer-oriented entry into that realm. The brand previously hinted at the concept with a 3D ThinkBook prototype displayed at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
Beneath the surface, the Legion 9i is a powerhouse. It is equipped with Intel’s Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and can be set up with up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU, 192GB of RAM, and a substantial 8TB of storage — enabled by four slots each for RAM and SSDs. To ensure all that hardware remains cool, Lenovo has replaced the liquid cooling system from the 2023 16-inch Legion 9i with a new vapor chamber design, featuring dedicated fans for the WiFi card, SSD, and RAM.
From a design perspective, the new Legion 9i maintains the sleek, robust aesthetic of its predecessor. Its Carbon Black lid is made from hand-forged carbon fiber layers, resulting in a distinct camo-like pattern on every unit. While some ports are positioned at the back of the chassis, the majority have been moved to the sides — including two Thunderbolt 5 ports. The laptop measures 15.87 x 11.67 x 0.94 to 1.1 inches, based on the display configuration, and weighs a hefty 7.72 pounds.
The previous Legion 9i was one of the most powerful laptops tested by Mashable — until it was recently surpassed by Apple’s M4 Pro MacBook Pro. With a starting price exceeding $4,000, it was also among the priciest options. Lenovo has yet to reveal the pricing for the new model, but don’t be surprised if it exceeds the $5,000 mark upon its U.S. launch this fall.
