Lyft Silver Debuts Today for Senior Passengers

Lyft Introduces Lyft Silver: A Streamlined Ride Experience for Senior Citizens

Lyft has rolled out a new app feature specifically designed to assist senior riders and enhance their autonomy. This new addition, named Lyft Silver, provides an easy-to-navigate interface customized to the requirements of older adults.

Lyft Silver makes the ride-booking experience more straightforward with larger fonts, reduced choices, and just two primary buttons: “Request a Ride” and “Schedule a Ride.” Along with its simplified layout, users will be paired with vehicles that allow for easier access and will benefit from live phone support for assistance.

Based on Lyft’s internal studies, 71% of older adults express low confidence when using technology. Many may cancel or miss rides due to confusion or stress related to navigating applications. “They may worry about making irreversible errors or quickly abandon experiences that seem daunting,” Lyft noted. “By prioritizing the needs of older adults, we strive to deliver a transportation solution that fosters independence and improves their everyday lives.”

To activate Lyft Silver, users can launch the Lyft app, tap the “You” icon in the bottom right corner, and choose “Lyft Silver” from the menu. This feature can also be shared with others through a dedicated link.

Lyft developed this new experience in partnership with organizations dedicated to senior welfare, including the Foundation for Social Connection Action Network, AltaMed, Urban League, NOAH, SAGE, and Self Help for the Elderly. The company is also collaborating with community partners to provide discounted rides to senior citizens.

Family members and caregivers can connect a loved one’s Lyft Silver account to a family profile and utilize Lyft Cash to pay for ride expenses. Furthermore, the service can be integrated with Lyft Concierge, enabling healthcare providers, businesses, and caregivers to arrange rides for others.

Lyft Silver is being launched today (May 1) in select locations, including Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, Tampa Bay, Washington, D.C., and various areas in New Jersey, with intentions to broaden its availability in the future.
