If you’ve recently found yourself exclaiming, “Do it lady!” you are not by yourself. This popular phrase originates from the office character Chit, who has turned into a viral phenomenon on TikTok.
You may have encountered Chit without realizing who he is. The “Do it lady!” sketch or the “black purse” gag probably appeared in your feeds. Chit is an awkward employee characterized by glasses and a bowl cut, mumbling mhm’s and yeahs, and is unpredictably amusing. He embodies a blend of Office Space’s Milton, The Office‘s Dwight Schrute, and a character that Will Forte might have portrayed on Saturday Night Live.
Here’s the iconic “Do it lady!” sketch, which led to a catchphrase, merchandise, reaction TikToks, and fan edits, accumulating nearly 10 million views.

The skits take place in an office, maintaining a consistent narrative throughout the TikToks released to this point. (The anticipation revolves around coworker Janice’s birthday.) Chit’s nerdy and clumsy demeanor frequently results in humorous misunderstandings, reminiscent of a sitcom.
The creator behind Chit and the production known as The Chit Show is Jay Renshaw, an improv comedian affiliated with The Groundlings in LA. Renshaw shared with USA Today that he developed the character six years ago and has cherished its evolution since debuting on TikTok just over a month ago.
“I think equally charming is witnessing how many audiences Chit has reached and affected,” Renshaw shared with the publication. “Just when I believe [Chit] has reached his full potential, I discover a completely different demographic that adores Chit just as much. It’s been this oddly universal experience, which [has], I think, been perhaps the most fulfilling aspect of it.”
