Martin Short celebrated his fifth hosting stint on *Saturday Night Live* with a monologue brimming with joyous musical flair and plenty of humor.
The star of *Only Murders in the Building* kicked things off with a traditional comedic setup, poking fun at everything from Tesla’s *Cybertrucks* to his long-time partner and co-star, Steve Martin. “He would have shown up tonight, but there was a conflict with my desire for him not to be here,” Short quipped. “And besides, it’s that week for *The Masked Singer* rehearsals.”
When the *SNL* cast seeks out Short for a little relief from their holiday pressures, the comedian jumps right in — through song, of course. Launching into a spoof of “We Need a Little Christmas,” Short humorously informs the audience that they “require a new prescription” to navigate the holiday madness.
The act is a whirlwind of excitement, featuring Short tossing a kid off Santa’s lap and taking a playful jab at *SNL* creator Lorne Michaels. (“You smell fantastic, I had no idea Jack Daniels produced cologne.”) And in a delightfully surprising twist, following a week of public banter with Jimmy Fallon, Short and Fallon reconcile with a dramatic makeout scene. Indeed, a Christmas miracle!
With his contagious enthusiasm and sharp humor, Short’s return to the *SNL* stage is a holiday delight to cherish.
