Martin Short Takes Jabs at Jimmy Fallon, John Mulaney, and More in SNL Five-Timers Club Cold Open

Martin Short has officially been welcomed into the illustrious *Saturday Night Live* Five-Timers Club!

The star of *Only Murders in the Building* and former *SNL* cast member celebrated his fifth time hosting with great flair, with none other than Tom Hanks ushering him into this elite group. The festivities included fellow Five-Timers Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin (who astonishingly holds the record with an impressive 17 hosting appearances), Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, John Mulaney, and Scarlett Johansson. Johansson even took a cheeky shot at her husband, *Weekend Update* co-anchor Colin Jost, by excluding him from the club.

Jimmy Fallon also made a cameo to hand Short his official Five-Timers Club jacket. However, if you thought Short would stop teasing Fallon after his recent [guest appearance on Fallon’s show](https://mashable.com/video/martin-short-jimmy-fallon-fight), you’d be mistaken.

“I can only stick around for a short while, and then I have to head off to host another game show and chuckle at my own jokes,” Fallon jested as he arrived.

“Well, at least someone’s laughing,” Short retorted.

Short’s sharp humor didn’t stop there. He also aimed some playful shots at John Mulaney, alluding to their unsuccessful 2014 sitcom *Mulaney*.

“But you made a strong comeback!” Short joked. “Then you crashed and burned. And then you came back strong, and we’re all so intrigued to see what happens next.”

Even Short’s long-time comedic partner, [Steve Martin](https://mashable.com/video/steve-martin-martin-short-seth-meyers-roast), wasn’t spared from his quips. When Hanks presented Short with the evening’s signature drink, a “MartyTini,” he remarked that it’s often accompanied by a “Steve MarTini.”

“I bet it’s even better on its own,” Short joked while taking a sip.

Naturally, the teasing was mutual. Members of the Five-Timers Club were eager to return the favor to Short, ensuring the evening was filled with lighthearted banter and laughter.
