Max had earlier shared its intentions, and now we have a schedule: the HBO streaming service, owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, will commence its password-sharing enforcement next week.
This information was disclosed by CEO JB Perrette during a conference hosted by Wells Fargo, as reported by *TheWrap*. “We will initiate, quite literally in about a week, some very early, soft messaging,” Perrette mentioned.
The initial stage will center on “soft” communications and will focus on users marked as being in the “higher tier of usage.”

Perrette recognized the difficulty in differentiating between legitimate account use—such as checking an account while on the move—and true password sharing. Consequently, the company intends to implement the updates gradually, intensifying restrictions over time. This more stringent enforcement phase is anticipated to occur in the latter part of 2025 and extend into 2026.
This measured strategy is likely to be appreciated by users, particularly in light of the negative feedback other platforms like Netflix have received for their more aggressive tactics and frequent login requests.
In addition to the developments on password sharing, Perrette revealed some thrilling news regarding future HBO programming. The eagerly awaited third season of *The White Lotus* is scheduled to debut in February. In the meantime, *The Last of Us* Season 2 will premiere in spring 2025, followed by *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*—a prequel to *Game of Thrones*—also set to arrive in 2025. Fans of *Euphoria* will need to be patient, as its third season has now been pushed to a release in 2026.
As the password-sharing crackdown approaches, viewers at least have an exciting roster of new shows to anticipate.
