Megadoc Teaser Provides Insider Look at Megalopolis

Francis Ford Coppola’s *Megalopolis* is a bewildering sci-fi saga influenced by Roman history, incorporating a live performance aspect in certain screenings and featuring a character named Wow Platinum (Aubrey Plaza). If you think *Megalopolis* is remarkable, the tale of its production is even more astonishing, which leads us to *Megadoc*.

Directed by Mike Figgis (*Leaving Las Vegas*), *Megadoc* provides an insider’s perspective on the creation of *Megalopolis* and Coppola’s artistic journey. Making its debut at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, the documentary features interviews with Coppola, Eleanor Coppola, Adam Driver, Aubrey Plaza, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dustin Hoffman, Giancarlo Esposito, Chloe Fineman, Shia LaBeouf, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Talia Shire, and Robert De Niro.

The initial teaser for *Megadoc* offers a sneak peek of what to anticipate, showcasing Coppola declaring, “No one I’m working with realizes how bizarre a movie this truly is.” Nonetheless, the teaser does not divulge much regarding the behind-the-scenes insights just yet. The existing details surrounding *Megalopolis*’ production are compelling enough to serve as its own preview.

*Megalopolis* was Coppola’s dream project for many years. Struggling to obtain funding, he self-financed it, investing $120 million, while it earned just over $14.3 million worldwide. The production was fraught with challenges, as Coppola consistently altered shooting schedules and dismissed the visual effects team, resulting in additional crew exits.

Multiple female extras accused Coppola of inappropriate conduct on set. Extra Lauren Pagone filed a lawsuit against Coppola for civil battery and civil assault, along with a negligent failure to prevent sexual harassment. Months prior to the film’s release, *Variety* released a video revealing Coppola’s alleged misbehavior and testimonies from accusers. Coppola later filed a libel suit against *Variety*, seeking $15 million in damages.

Following its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, *Megadoc* will be released in select theaters on Sept. 19.
