**Meta Ventures into Robotics with AI-Enhanced Humanoids**

Meta is setting the stage to be a frontrunner in the robotics field, intending to create its own humanoid robot hardware and ultimately establish itself as a significant entity in AI-driven robotics innovation.

As reported by *Bloomberg*, this effort will be spearheaded by a new hardware division within Meta’s Reality Labs—the same team responsible for Quest VR and Ray-Ban smart glasses. The initial emphasis will be on creating robots that can aid with everyday household tasks. While there isn’t currently a Meta-branded robot butler in the works, the company hasn’t dismissed its potential.

To propel its robotics goals, Meta has allegedly started conversations with firms like Unitree Robotics and Figure AI Inc. The company aims to utilize its existing software, sensors, and computing technologies—many of which are integral to Reality Labs’ offerings and autonomous vehicle initiatives—while also working closely with manufacturers. Furthermore, the new division will focus on developing safety protocols for robotics.

In an internal memorandum, Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth highlighted how the company’s present investments in AI and Reality Labs align seamlessly with its robotics ambitions. “The foundational technologies we’ve previously invested in and established across Reality Labs and AI are synergistic to fostering the advancements required for robotics,” he stated. “Broadening our portfolio in this domain will enhance the value of Meta AI and enrich our mixed and augmented reality programs.”

This robotics initiative emerges amid significant organizational changes at Meta. Just last week, the company launched a global layoff round, impacting at least 4,000 employees in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. These job reductions are part of a wider strategy to optimize operations and emphasize AI growth. Merely weeks prior, Meta restructured its internal teams to direct more resources toward generative AI, while also ramping up recruitment of machine learning engineers, as noted by *Reuters*.
