Microsoft has issued an urgent update for its SharePoint software after hackers exploited a vulnerability to launch extensive cyberattacks. On Saturday, the firm urged organizations utilizing the software to install security updates promptly. SharePoint Online within Microsoft 365 remained unaffected by the attacks. The Washington Post was the first to report this information, highlighting that the hacks targeted both U.S. and global organizations, encompassing businesses and certain federal agencies, which led to the compromise of sensitive data and passwords. “We have been working closely with CISA, DOD Cyber Defense Command, and essential cybersecurity collaborators worldwide throughout our response,” a spokesperson for the company remarked. This “zero-day” attack arises from a vulnerability that was previously unknown, endangering tens of thousands of servers, as reported by CNN.
