Microsoft Teams Strengthens Security by Safeguarding Against Harmful Files and Links

Microsoft Teams users can anticipate improved scam protection on the video conferencing platform. According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, which details upcoming feature launches, two new malware-focused updates are set to roll out in September, as indicated by TechRadar.

The first update blocks messages containing harmful files in chats and channels, including safeguards against executables utilized by hackers to gain control of a user’s computer. The second update protects against harmful links shared in chats and channels, with Teams now able to identify and warn users about fraudulent links.

Microsoft Teams is extensively utilized by organizations for internal and external communication, rendering it an attractive target for hackers. Cybersecurity professionals have reported a rise in Teams scams, including phishing and voice phishing attempts, by malicious actors posing as bosses, colleagues, outside clients, and even job recruiters.

Both updates were revealed earlier this week and will be accessible to Teams users on desktop, iOS, Android, and the web app starting next month.
