Microsoft is slowly discontinuing its Lens scanning application for iOS and Android, as stated in a support document. Formerly referred to as Office Lens, the app enabled users to transform images into PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets, effectively managing both handwritten and printed materials. It was favored and reliable, but Microsoft aims to officially discontinue the app on September 15, 2025.
Assistance will end on November 15, 2025, when Lens will be eliminated from both the App Store and Google Play. Users will be able to generate scans until December 15, 2025, but this functionality will be turned off afterward. Existing scans will still be available as long as the app remains installed on the device.
This move concludes an application boasting over 50 million downloads on Google Play and nearly 136,000 ratings on Apple’s App Store. Microsoft is guiding users to Microsoft 365 Copilot, which retains most of Lens’s scanning capabilities. However, Copilot does not include some of Lens’s significant features, such as direct saving to Microsoft Suite applications and accessibility options like read-aloud support and Immersive Reader integration.
