In a partnership that feels like it’s taken from a fictional narrative, YouTube star MrBeast — recognized for his astonishing charitable endeavors — is joining forces with renowned thriller novelist James Patterson to co-create a novel.
This is indeed happening. After an intense bidding competition that allegedly reached eight figures, MrBeast (whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson) is embarking on his writing journey alongside Patterson under the HarperCollins publishing label. As reported by Deadline, the soon-to-be-released book is a rapid-paced thriller focused on a worldwide, high-stakes contest with a billion-dollar reward — effectively, a MrBeast video in book format.
The working title of the project is speculated to be The Most Dangerous Game, clearly referencing Richard Connell’s classic short tale about a man being hunted for sport by a rich elite. While that title has yet to be verified, other possibilities are said to still be considered.
The storyline shares some similarities with MrBeast’s Amazon-supported reality series Beast Games, which faced criticism last year when participants claimed they endured unsafe and extreme conditions during production.
In spite of the criticisms, MrBeast’s progress shows no signs of slowing down. In a statement issued via United Talent Agency, Donaldson expressed that writing fiction has been a long-held aspiration. His team played a role in introducing him to Patterson, and the two swiftly established a collaborative synergy.
Patterson, famed for the popular Alex Cross series, turned out to be the perfect collaborator for Donaldson’s concept — a narrative infused with tension, drama, and the kind of elevated stakes that have come to define MrBeast’s brand.
