Netflix Confirms Season 3 Renewal for “Wednesday” Just Two Weeks Ahead of Season 2 Launch

Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) might be steeped in sorrow, but enthusiasts of Wednesday should be bursting with excitement, as Netflix has announced the renewal of the series for a third season. The announcement, appropriately made on a Wednesday, arrives two weeks prior to the Aug. 6 debut of Wednesday Season 2, highlighting Netflix’s trust in the series.

In its initial season, Wednesday proved to be a massive success, becoming the most-watched English language program on Netflix ever. Overall, it’s the second most streamed series in the platform’s history, trailing only Squid Game.

“It’s been a delightful darkness to observe Wednesday enchant viewers around the globe — one dry wit at a time,” said Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar in a press release. “We’re utterly delighted that she’ll be back to haunt the halls of Nevermore in Season 3. This time, she’ll unravel more of the school’s nefarious secrets — and delve even further into the Addams family crypt. Or, as Wednesday might articulate: ‘Nothing unifies a family quite like a good exhumation.'”

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria remarked, “The undeniable resonance of Wednesday struck a chord with fans worldwide immediately, propelling it to the pinnacle of our rankings as our most popular English language TV series, and initiating cultural phenomena. We are immensely proud of Al Gough, Miles Millar, Tim Burton, Jenna Ortega, and the entire Wednesday team for all they’ve achieved. Following its eagerly awaited Season 2 comeback, we are excited to renew this iconic series for a third season and provide more of what fans cherish.”

The announcement of a third season of Wednesday is thrilling, but what should viewers look forward to in Season 2? Based on the upcoming season’s trailer, Wednesday receives a premonition that her dearest friend Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) will perish — and that Wednesday is the cause. Will Wednesday find a way to rescue Enid before it’s too late?

Season 2 also teases new guest appearances, featuring Steve Buscemi as Nevermore’s new principal, and Lady Gaga as the esteemed Nevermore educator Rosaline Rotwood. Let the chaos begin.

Wednesday Season 2 Part 1 premieres Aug. 6 on Netflix, with Part 2 launching on Sept. 3.
