There have been concerning narratives regarding children involved in the entertainment sector for quite some time, and it is reasonable to conclude that young social media influencers may encounter analogous obstacles.
A forthcoming Netflix docuseries, *Bad Influence*, investigates claims against Tiffany Smith, the mother and manager of child influencer Piper Rockelle. While their content gathered millions of views and considerable revenue, former members of Rockelle’s influencer “squad” have come forward with alarming allegations about Smith’s actions. The documentary’s trailer indicates that Smith may have sexualized minors in videos to enhance engagement and created a climate of fear for the children participating.
Smith and Rockelle have rejected the allegations, although they did reach a settlement in a lawsuit concerning the claims. The three-part docuseries is scheduled to debut on April 9.
