One of the remarkable television series of 2022, comedian Mo Amer’s highly praised Netflix show *Mo*, is set to return for its eagerly awaited second season at the end of January.
Co-created by Amer and Ramy Youssef, and directed by Solvan “Slick” Naim, the inaugural season familiarized audiences with Mo Najjar (portrayed by Amer), a Palestinian refugee residing in Houston with his family, while he navigates the intricacies of the U.S. asylum process.
Season 2 resumes six months later, with Mo stuck in Mexico, unable to reunite with his family in the United States due to his missing passport. While constantly confronted with inquiries about his resolve to cross the border, Mo’s spirit remains unbroken. He uncovers moments of levity even amid adversity, such as learning that his girlfriend Maria (Teresa Ruiz) is seeing someone new or facing the risk of deportation following a botched border crossing attempt.
This season brings back Farah Bsieso as Yusra, Mo’s mother, and Omar Elba as Sameer, Mo’s brother. New guest stars include Hannibal Buress, Liza Koshy, Matt Rife, Ralph Barbosa, and Slim Thug, introducing exciting new dynamics to the ensemble.
Timely and insightful, *Mo* continues to explore the hurdles of being a Palestinian refugee, the shortcomings and contradictions of the U.S. immigration system, and the systemic dehumanization experienced by those seeking citizenship. This is all conveyed through a mix of humor and empathy, making *Mo* a cleverly crafted comedy about a man simply striving to survive and flourish.
*Mo* Season 2 will start streaming on Netflix on January 30.
