Wearables and intelligent rings are trending product categories, and two ex-Meta workers have launched a new smart ring brand named Sandbar.
Sandbar’s debut product is the Stream smart ring, which can be preordered for $249, with anticipated shipping in summer 2026. Unlike the Oura Ring, it does not monitor heart rate or steps, nor is it an AI device like Bee, which was recently acquired by Amazon.
What does it do?
The Stream mainly serves as a voice recorder to capture and transcribe thoughts, and it enables music control via hand gestures.
Smartphones and various AI chatbots are already capable of recording and transcribing notes, and most headphones and earbuds include touch controls for music.
As stated on the Sandbar website, Stream is a “fast, private, & effortless way to capture thoughts in the moment.” A companion app arranges voice notes into reminders, calendar events, or notes, but a Pro subscription is priced at $10 per month. A free version offers “unlimited notes and limited chats.”
Regarding design, the smart ring boasts an aluminum exterior, a resin interior, and a glass touchpad. Sandbar asserts that the ring is “resistant to rain and handwashing.”
TechCrunch notes that Sandbar was established by former Meta staff Mina Fahmi and Kirak Hong. The ring is available for preorder on the Sandbar website.
