Nintendo Direct: 5 Essential Switch 2 Titles to Watch This Friday

Nintendo has revealed a Nintendo Direct livestream to conclude the week, following weeks filled with speculation and leaks suggesting its arrival.

The gaming powerhouse recently celebrated the successful launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 console, yet there is a striking absence of information regarding forthcoming games. While we are aware of titles like Kirby Air Riders, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and a few others, there remains uncertainty about the upcoming year of Switch 2 releases.

Fortunately, a substantial 60-minute Nintendo Direct is slated for Friday morning at 9am ET. This gives Nintendo ample opportunity to unveil new content, including some Switch 1 titles, but the emphasis will be on the Switch 2 games we anticipate witnessing during the livestream.

Nintendo Direct September 2025: 5 Switch 2 titles we hope to see

Most of these titles have already been announced. It’s difficult to assert that we “need” to see something that is not confirmed.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been a long-anticipated title since its announcement in 2017. Originally intended for Switch 1, it has shifted to a Switch 2 game due to its intricate development. Despite Nintendo’s reassurances of a 2025 release, it still lacks an official date. It is quite likely this Direct will address that.

Hades II

Hades II, similar to Metroid Prime 4, is expected this year but does not yet have a release date. The early access version was among last year’s top games, and it is set to launch on Switch 2 before any other consoles. A release date announcement could occur on Friday.

The Duskbloods

The Duskbloods, from Elden Ring creator From Software, is a highly awaited Switch 2 exclusive. Announced in April, the trailer was ambiguous, depicting a multiplayer game with a steampunk atmosphere and formidable adversaries. Although scheduled for 2026, additional details may surface if it’s aimed for an early 2026 release.

Splatoon Raiders

Splatoon Raiders was revealed through a mobile app, outside of any Direct. The short trailer implies a single-player survival experience within the Splatoon universe. As a Splatoon enthusiast, this concept is enticing, and it’s likely to be showcased in the Direct.

Whatever is next for either Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing

Two prominent Nintendo franchises, Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, might make an appearance. The last Animal Crossing was a tremendous success more than five years ago, and a new installment could invigorate Switch 2 sales. Fire Emblem’s last release was in early 2023, with speculation regarding a new game or remake for Switch 2. While neither might be fully ready, there’s a strong possibility that one will be featured.

Honorable mention: The next set of Switch 2 upgrades

All previously announced Switch 2 Editions of older Switch 1 games are obtainable, yet no free upgrade patches for older games have been revealed. Nintendo could announce upgrades or patches to enhance older titles on Switch 2. Personally, I would be thrilled to see Xenoblade Chronicles games receive upgrades, but any announcement would be appreciated.
