The Nintendo Switch 2 continues to amaze fans as its June 5 launch date draws near.
In a recent commentary video from developers about the Switch 2 version of Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening CE, producer Michi Ryu disclosed a new feature that hasn’t been confirmed before: the new console will be compatible with USB mice. According to Engadget, Ryu clarified that players can connect a USB mouse directly to the Switch 2 while playing Nobunaga’s Ambition, and the game will automatically detect it—prioritizing it over the Joy-Con for control. This enhances the already established ability to use Joy-Con controllers as a mouse input.
Although this functionality has only been validated for one game so far, it paves the way for wider USB mouse compatibility in future releases. It’s important to mention that the original Nintendo Switch did technically support USB mice, albeit in a very restricted manner; however, the Switch 2’s integrated mouse functionality within its default controllers might inspire more developers to add native mouse support in their titles.
Historically, fewer than 30 games on the first Switch provided mouse compatibility. With the improved features of the Switch 2, that figure is anticipated to significantly rise as time progresses—particularly as developers investigate new control options. We’ll be monitoring closely to see if forthcoming titles like Metroid Prime 4 and Civilization VII will also feature support for third-party USB mice upon the console’s release.
