This week, a popular post on Instagram suggested that **Apple** had taken **International Women’s Day** (March 8) off its calendar. Nevertheless, this assertion is not entirely true.
On March 4, **Bellesa**, a brand specializing in sex toys, published a post that stated, *”Apple quietly removed International Women’s Day from the calendar. That’s odd.”* The post has gained considerable visibility and included guidance on how individuals could add the holiday back to their **Apple Calendar** manually.
According to the official IWD website, **International Women’s Day (IWD)** has been celebrated since 1911. It is recognized worldwide as a day to honor women’s accomplishments and promote gender equality. This occasion takes place during **Women’s History Month**, which underscores the contributions of women throughout history.
The rumor about Apple emerged shortly after **Google Calendar** eliminated multiple observances, such as **Black History Month** and **Pride Month**, approximately three weeks ago. Google stated that this decision was part of a transition to include only public holidays and official observances. However, the action faced criticism as it aligned with a wider anti-diversity campaign associated with **Donald Trump’s** second presidential campaign.
Since his return to office in January, Trump has overseen the elimination of **LGBTQ+ content** from government websites and has advocated for the dismantling of **Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs**. Some prominent tech firms, like **Meta** and **Google**, have mirrored this approach by cutting their DEI initiatives. In contrast, **Apple shareholders recently voted** to uphold the company’s DEI policies.
In light of the present political atmosphere, many users on social media assumed that Apple had purposely omitted International Women’s Day. However, **Politifact** disproved this assertion, revealing that **Apple never featured International Women’s Day on its calendar from the start**. The company confirmed to Politifact that neither International Women’s Day nor Women’s History Month had ever been included in **Apple Calendar**.
**Mashable** has reached out to both **Apple** and **Bellesa** for additional clarification and will revise this story if new details emerge.
