What Is Connections: Sports Edition?
This sports-centric adaptation of Connections was developed in partnership with The Athletic, the dedicated sports news division of the NYT. The game can be played on both desktop and mobile web browsers and maintains the same format as the original: 16 words are displayed, requiring players to categorize them into four groups of four, with each group sharing a common theme.
The twist? Although multiple words might appear to fit together, only one correct grouping exists for each category. Guessing correctly will cause those words to vanish from the board. If you make an incorrect choice, it will count against the four mistakes you are permitted.
To aid in recognizing patterns, players are allowed to shuffle the board. Each category is also distinguished by color according to difficulty: yellow (easiest), green, blue, and purple (most difficult). After finishing the puzzle, you can share your results with friends on social media—similar to Wordle.
