What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s latest daily word game is introduced in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times platform for sports journalism. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to group four words that share a common link.

Every puzzle contains 16 words, split into four categories. These groups can range from book titles to software or country names. While several words may appear to fit, only one combination is correct.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are cleared from the board. Incorrect guesses count as errors—players may make up to four errors before the game concludes.

Players have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the identification of connections. Each group is assigned a color code, with yellow representing the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social media.
