What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT’s newest daily word game is launched in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times branch dedicated to sports journalism. Connections can be accessed via web browsers and mobile devices, tasking players with categorizing four words that share a similarity.

Each puzzle consists of 16 words split into four groups. These categories can encompass a range of items, from book titles to software, names of countries, etc. While several words may appear compatible, only one correct grouping exists.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the grid. Incorrect guesses are counted as errors—players are allowed a maximum of four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are able to rearrange and shuffle the grid to identify connections more effectively. Each group is marked by color, with yellow being the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. As with Wordle, outcomes can be shared with friends across social media platforms.
