What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge, created in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times’ sports journalism outlet, has just launched. Players can enjoy Connections on web browsers and mobile platforms, needing to categorize four words by their common theme.

Each puzzle features 16 words organized into four groups. These groups can include anything from book titles to software names, country designations, and more. Although several words may appear to be linked, only one set is accurate.

When a player successfully identifies all four words in a group, they are eliminated from the board. Incorrect answers are recorded as mistakes — players can commit up to four errors before concluding the game.

Participants can also rearrange and shuffle the board to enhance their chances of spotting links. Each category is identified by color, starting with yellow as the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, players can share their outcomes on social media.
