What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game, in collaboration with The Athletic, the New York Times’ sports journalism partner, is now accessible. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile platforms, challenging players to group four words sharing a common association.

Each puzzle holds 16 words divided into four categories. These groups can encompass anything from literary titles to software or national names. While several words may appear to fit together, there’s only one right solution.

If a player successfully groups all four words, those terms are eliminated from the board. An incorrect selection counts as a mistake — players can commit up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can rearrange and shuffle the board for easier identification of connections. Each group is color-coded, with yellow indicating the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your outcomes on social media.
