What is the Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game is presented in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times entity delivering sports news. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring participants to categorize four words that have a shared trait.

Each puzzle consists of 16 words, categorized into four groups. These categories could include anything from book titles to software, names of countries, etc. While several words may appear to fit together, there is only one correct combination.

If a player accurately identifies all four words in a group, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect attempt is counted as a mistake—players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the identification of connections. Each group is color-coded: yellow represents the easiest, succeeded by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends via social media.
