What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game debuts in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times’ platform for sports reporting. Connections is playable on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring participants to categorize four words sharing a common connection.

Every puzzle consists of 16 words sorted into four groups. These categories can encompass anything from book titles to software names or countries. While several words may appear to fit together, there is solely one correct grouping.

If a player successfully identifies all four words within a category, those words are cleared from the board. An incorrect guess is considered a mistake — players are permitted up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Participants can rearrange and shuffle the board to identify connections more effectively. Each group is color-coded, starting with yellow as the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, users can share their results with friends on social media.
