What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game launches in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times platform that delivers sports coverage. Connections can be accessed via both web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to categorize four words that share a common link.

Each puzzle consists of 16 words that are split into four groups. These sets could include anything from book titles, software, country names, and more. While many words might appear to fit together, only one correct grouping exists.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a set, those words are removed from the board. A wrong guess is counted as an error — players can make up to four errors before the game concludes.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make finding connections simpler. Each group is color-coded, with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your results with friends on social media.
