What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge has been launched in partnership with The Athletic, a New York Times platform dedicated to sports coverage. Connections is available on both web and mobile, requiring players to categorize four words that share a similarity.

Each challenge presents 16 words organized into four groups. These categories may include book titles, software, country names, etc. Although various words may seem to connect, there’s only one correct grouping.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. Incorrect attempts are counted as errors—players can make up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are able to rearrange and shuffle the board to identify connections more easily. Furthermore, each group is color-coded: yellow signifies the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social media.
