What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge is introduced in collaboration with The Athletic, the New York Times’ platform for sports reporting. Players can enjoy Connections on both web browsers and mobile devices, tasked with organizing four words that share a common thread.

Each puzzle features 16 words split into four categories. These groups can encompass anything from book titles to software names or countries. While many words may appear to belong together, only a single correct solution exists.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess constitutes a mistake—participants can afford up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are allowed to rearrange and shuffle the board to discern connections more efficiently. Each group is color-coded: yellow is the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social networks.
