What is Connections Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game is introduced in partnership with The Athletic, the sports journalism platform of the New York Times. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, requiring participants to group four words that are linked by a common thread.

Every puzzle features 16 words arranged into four categories. These groups can vary from book titles to software names or country identities. Even though several words may seem compatible, only one combination is correct.

If a player successfully determines all four words in a category, those words are taken off the board. Incorrect guesses are counted as errors—players are allowed up to four errors before the game concludes.

Players have the ability to rearrange and shuffle the board for easier identification of connections. Each group is represented by a color code: yellow indicates the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, players can share their results with friends on social media.
