What is Connections: Sports Edition?
The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge has been unveiled in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times brand that delivers sports journalism. Players can engage in Connections via web browsers and mobile devices, which involve grouping four words that share a common theme.

Each puzzle contains 16 words split into four categories. These categories can encompass anything from book names to software and country titles. While several words might appear to connect, only one correct grouping is valid.
If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess is considered a mistake — players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players are able to rearrange and mix the board for identifying connections more effectively. Each grouping is marked by color, with yellow being the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social platforms.
