What is Connections: Sports Edition?

The NYT‘s newest daily word game has debuted in partnership with The Athletic, the New York Times entity that covers sports. Connections can be played on web browsers and mobile devices, where players must link four words that share a commonality.

Each puzzle features 16 words, split into four categories. These groups can vary from book titles to software or country names. Though several words might seem to connect, only one correct combination is available.

If a player correctly identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. Wrong guesses are counted as errors, with players allowed a maximum of four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate discovering connections. Each group is assigned a color code, with yellow being the simplest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, results can be shared with friends on social media.
