What is Connections?

The NYT‘s newest daily word challenge has taken social media by storm. The Times attributes the development of this new word game to associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu, who introduced it into the publication’s Games section. Connections is accessible on both web browsers and mobile devices, requiring players to classify four words that have a shared characteristic.

Each puzzle comes with 16 words, divided into four categories. These groups can encompass a variety of themes, such as book titles, software names, countries, and more. While numerous words may appear to fit together, there exists only one correct grouping.

If a player successfully identifies all four words in a category, those words are eliminated from the board. A wrong guess counts as an error—players are allowed up to four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players also have the option to rearrange and shuffle the board to facilitate the identification of connections. Furthermore, each group is color-coded, with yellow indicating the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Similar to Wordle, you can share your results on social media with friends.
