Leonardo DiCaprio takes on a perilous quest to save his daughter in the intense trailer for One Battle After Another, the newest film from esteemed director Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza).

Loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s novel Vineland, the movie portrays DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary who has long abandoned his radical past. This is evident early in the trailer, as he wrestles with remembering a set of intricate security codes.

“Let’s not dwell on the passwords,” he remarks during a frantic phone conversation that kicks off the trailer.

As the footage progresses, it becomes clear why Bob is so unsettled. His daughter, portrayed by Chase Infiniti, has vanished after a brutal assault on their home by a figure from his history. To locate her, Bob must reconnect with his former allies and plunge back into a realm he thought he had escaped.

The film also features Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor.

One Battle After Another hits theaters on September 26.
