Apple is experiencing a departure of one of its leading AI specialists, as reported by Bloomberg. Robby Walker, who has served as the senior director of Apple’s Answers, Information, and Knowledge team since the beginning of this year, is said to be leaving the technology company next month. Previously, Walker was in charge of Siri before moving into AI development. This comes on the heels of Apple’s loss of several other senior AI personnel to Meta in July, which was also reported by Bloomberg.
The report does not clarify the reasons behind Walker’s or the other employees’ departures, but it hints at a less-than-rosy perspective on Apple’s AI development efforts. Apple’s AI functionalities have significantly fallen behind rivals such as Google. For instance, Google’s Gemini Live chatbot has been in operation for a while, whereas Apple’s AI-enhanced Siri upgrade has been postponed until next year.
It is still unclear whether this AI trend constitutes a bubble on the verge of bursting or a sustainable phenomenon, but considering Apple’s speed, one might assume the company is leaning towards the former.
