It has been a year and a half since HBO Max (then merely Max) discontinued Our Flag Means Death, the LGBTQ+ pirate comedy developed by David Jenkins, featuring Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi. Although the series has concluded, enthusiasts now have the chance to obtain memorabilia from the show, as Heritage Auctions is selling props and costumes from it.
This auction is a component of Heritage’s HBO Mashup auction, which showcases items from Barry, Big Little Lies, Curb Your Enthusiasm, White House Plumbers, and Perry Mason.
Items from Our Flag Means Death include “Wanted” posters for Blackbeard (Waititi), as well as pirate swords, daggers, and pistols; plus, the mermaid tail worn by Stede Bonnet (Darby) in a significant dream scene of Season 2. A variety of costume pieces are available, such as Stede’s extravagant coats and Blackbeard’s leather battle garments.
As of this moment, several items are still priced at $1. In contrast, the priciest item currently is the Stede and Blackbeard wedding toppers from Season 2, which are listed at over $1,000. The auction concludes on Aug. 23.
Heritage Auctions isn’t the sole instance of an Our Flag Means Death auction. In February and March of 2025, fans of the series organized the Our Flag Means Death craft fair, a 19-day fundraising event that raised $105,000 for the Campaign for Southern Equality’s Trans Youth Emergency Project. Numerous items for sale were crafted by fans, ranging from embroidery artworks to jewelry. Moreover, the Craft Fair auction also featured contributions from the cast and crew of Our Flag Means Death. Jenkins donated a teapot inspired by the series, along with a prop that Waititi sketched on during production.
