**OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 to Be Launched Gradually for ChatGPT Plus Subscribers**
OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman has announced that **GPT-4.5** will be made available to **ChatGPT Plus** subscribers over a span of days instead of all at once. Users are advised to be patient as the rollout unfolds.
*”There isn’t an ideal approach to this; our aim was to launch it for everyone tomorrow, but that would have necessitated an extremely low rate limit,”* Altman shared in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Tuesday. *”We believe this will be heavily utilized and well-received. Therefore, we believe it’s preferable to allow for genuine, in-depth conversations instead of having everyone access it simultaneously.”*
### **Anticipations for GPT-4.5**
Revealed last Thursday, **GPT-4.5** is OpenAI’s newest **large language model (LLM)** and is anticipated to be the final version that does not feature **chain-of-thought prompting**. This method aids AI models in mimicking human reasoning by deconstructing complicated tasks into logical sequences.
Although GPT-4.5 is not yet fully embracing this technique, OpenAI asserts that initial tests indicate interactions with the model appear **more natural**.
*”Its expanded knowledge base, enhanced capability to understand user intent, and superior ‘EQ’ render it beneficial for tasks such as enhancing writing, coding, and addressing practical challenges,”* OpenAI noted. *”We also project it will experience fewer hallucinations.”*
### **A Staged Release Due to GPU Limitations**
In spite of the enhancements, Altman has warned users not to anticipate a significant advancement in reasoning abilities, stating that GPT-4.5 *”is not a reasoning model and won’t dominate benchmarks.”*
The phased rollout comes as no surprise. Altman had previously indicated that OpenAI initially intended to launch the **”giant, costly model”** simultaneously for both **ChatGPT Plus ($20/month)** and **ChatGPT Pro ($200/month)** subscribers. However, a shortage of **graphics processing units (GPUs)** made this unfeasible, resulting in **ChatGPT Pro** users getting access first.
To remedy this, OpenAI is enhancing its infrastructure.
*”Next week, we will bring in tens of thousands of GPUs and then roll it out to the Plus tier,”* Altman mentioned last Thursday. *”(Hundreds of thousands on the way soon, and I’m fairly confident you’ll utilize every one we can acquire.)”*
For the time being, ChatGPT Plus users must be patient as OpenAI gradually increases access to GPT-4.5.
