Osgood Perkins is engaging us with Keeper. The horror director known for Longlegs and The Monkey understands how to captivate his audience, providing clues about what his forthcoming unsettling, mysterious film will entail instead of dazzling us with overt violence or star appeal.
For the initial teaser for Keeper, Neon unveiled a video titled, “You’re not suited for this place.” It showcases visuals of various women throughout the ages, seemingly capturing the gaze of an observer. Smiling, scowling, or yelling as a romance unravels. Then a montage of screams, accompanied by a gentle voice stating, “This place isn’t suitable for me.” The title of the video appeared to address this. But what does it signify?
Neon’s latest trailer will not clarify that. Nevertheless, it does highlight the film’s main stars: Tatiana Maslany and Rossif Sutherland.
This trailer bears the title, “Why does it have to always end.” — without a question mark. In the trailer, we begin to grasp the narrative. A couple embarks on a weekend retreat to a secluded cabin. However, during their stay, their thoughts are dominated not by romance, but by unsettling curiosities. Picture Gone Girl infused with Perkins’ sense of lurking dread.
In the press release forwarded to Mashable, Neon also shared this:
YOU CAN’T HOLLER DOWN OUR RAIN BARREL,
YOU CAN’T CLIMB OUR APPLE TREE,
I DON’T WANNA PLAY IN YOUR YARD
IF YOU CAN’T BE GOOD TO ME.
These are lines from Peggy Lee’s “I Don’t Want To Play In Your Yard.” Could this be the tune whispered in the trailer? And what implications might that hold?
We’ll discover the answer when Keeper: A Dark Trip from Osgood Perkins premieres on Nov. 14.
