Perplexity’s Voice Assistant Now Accessible on Apple Devices
Perplexity, the AI-driven search platform supported by Nvidia and Jeff Bezos, has officially released its voice assistant for Apple devices. Announced on Wednesday via the company’s X (previously Twitter) account, the iOS version of the Perplexity app now features voice interaction capabilities, enabling users to engage directly with the assistant.
This update follows the January debut of Perplexity’s Android application, which launched with voice assistant functionality in 15 languages.
The newly added voice assistant feature goes beyond simple search capabilities. Users can now carry out a range of tasks using voice commands, such as making a restaurant reservation or rideshare, obtaining directions, reviewing their calendar, playing music, or even drafting and sending emails—all within the app.
To utilize the voice assistant on iOS, launch the Perplexity app and select the microphone icon situated in the search bar at the bottom of the screen, adjacent to the “Ask anything” prompt. The app will seek permission for microphone access, after which you can start conversing with the assistant.
In a trial, requesting Perplexity to locate the best coffee nearby produced a map of top-rated cafes in London, which the assistant vocalized. When inquired about its sources, Perplexity indicated that it compiles information from various platforms, including TripAdvisor and Google Maps, leveraging user reviews and ratings to highlight popular locations.
The iOS launch arrives amid increasing competition in the voice assistant arena. Contenders like Google’s Gemini Live, OpenAI’s ChatGPT Voice Mode, and AI startup Sesame are all advancing towards more intuitive, multimodal voice interactions.
This launch also follows Perplexity’s recent rollout of its Deep Research tool, powered by DeepSeek R1, further enhancing the company’s array of AI-driven features.
