Harry Lighton’s acclaimed BDSM romance, Pillion, is set to hit U.S. theaters right in time for Valentine’s Day. You can create the perfect atmosphere by watching the new trailer from A24.
Adapted from the 2020 novel Box Hill by Adam Mars-Jones, who collaborated with Lighton on the screenplay, Pillion features Harry Melling as the reserved parking attendant Colin. A serendipitous meeting introduces him to his polar opposite, the self-assured motorcycle club leader Ray (Alexander Skarsgård), leading them into a Dom/sub dynamic.
While Ray, confident and deeply embedded in BDSM culture, is well-versed in such relationships, Colin is stepping into his first sexual experience. The film delves into themes of kink and garnered outstanding reviews during its 2025 Cannes Film Festival debut.
Siddhant Adlakha remarked in his Cannes critique, “Lighton’s thrilling contemporary British drama navigates a master-slave dynamic that’s both unsettling and exhilarating. Featuring exceptional performances from Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling, the film expertly balances tone with impressive finesse, creating one of the most remarkable (and audience-friendly) experiences at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.”
To witness the start of Colin and Ray’s unexpected romance, be sure to watch the trailer, which showcases a clandestine alley meeting and several awkward moments as Colin attempts to convey his newfound interests to his parents.
Pillion premieres in theaters on Feb. 6.
