Vince Gilligan’s *Pluribus* presents numerous ethical questions — however, in episode 3, one query stands out as considerably simpler to resolve. Is it possible to actually spend the night at that impressive ice hotel? We’ve done some research to uncover the answer.
What occurs with the ice hotel in *Pluribus* episode 3?
Episode 3 of the Apple TV series begins with a flashback to approximately seven years prior to the viral outbreak on Earth. To celebrate the release of a new book in *The Winds of Wycaro* series, author Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn) and her companion Helen (Miriam Shor) arrive at an ice hotel in Norway. Their guide, Bjorn, shares that the hotel was constructed using 300 tons of ice and over 10,000 tons of snow. He mentions it melts every summer and is reconstructed annually. Their accommodation, which is a few degrees below zero and features an ice bed, showcases sculptures and a window that offers a stunning view of the Northern Lights. Helen is enamored, while Carol appears somewhat less enthusiastic — but if you wished to, could you actually book a stay there yourself?
Can you really stay at that ice hotel?
The first thing to note is that the ice hotel in *Pluribus* is not explicitly named in the episode. We know it’s located in Norway, and the episode mentions that the room was allegedly carved by a winner of the Harbin Ice Sculpting Competition (which exists in reality, even if the artist does not seem to), but details are sparse. “Do we really have to visit every quirky destination Rick Steves endorses?” Carol asks at one moment, referencing the American travel writer — yet a brief search does not reveal any specific suggestions from Steves. Conversely, ice hotels in Norway are indeed a real phenomenon. Among them, the Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel — the northernmost igloo hotel in the country — appears to be a fairly suitable comparison, as it is also adorned with ice sculptures and melts each Spring. So, can you stay where Carol and Helen do in the show? Not precisely. However, you can definitely find accommodations that are quite similar.
*Pluribus* is available for streaming on Apple TV, with a fresh episode released every Friday.
