Episode 5 of *Pluribus* concluded with a thrilling cliffhanger. Carol Sturka, portrayed by Rhea Seehorn, was looking into the Others’ peculiar fascination with milk when she identified their primary food source: a viscous amber liquid composed of water and an enigmatic white powder. Her inquiry brought her to a refrigerated warehouse stocked with produce and items wrapped in plastic. Upon examining one of the bags, she was stunned by what she uncovered.
*Pluribus* faded to black before disclosing the entire narrative, but episode 6, “HDP,” swiftly delivered explanations. The startling revelation? Human remains. The warehouse housed shrink-wrapped bodies, meat grinders, and containers of human parts. The Others are cannibals, and Carol finds herself embroiled in this ghastly discovery.
In Las Vegas, Carol conveys her observations to Mr. Diabaté, played by Samba Schutte, who is already familiar with the Others’ activities. The Others are unable to harm or kill any living entities, including vegetation, which complicates their quest for sustenance for their 7,348,292,411 hive mind members. They depend on Human-Derived Protein (HDP) sourced from naturally deceased individuals to augment their diets. In spite of the Joining event, which caused millions of deaths, the Others continue to face starvation within a decade.
Mr. Diabaté and other immune survivors are determined to rescue the Others, yet Carol is resolute in her mission to reverse the Joining and eliminate the cannibalistic hive mind from Earth.
*Pluribus* is accessible for streaming on Apple TV, with fresh episodes debuting every Friday.
