Peacock has terminated Rian Johnson’s whodunnit “Poker Face” after two seasons, as disclosed by Deadline. Johnson aims to carry on the show with a new lead, completely replacing Natasha Lyonne.
Johnson is seeking new broadcasters for “Poker Face” alongside Ram Bergman, Lyonne, and MRC. He is pursuing a two-season agreement where Peter Dinklage would take over Lyonne’s role as “human lie detector” Charlie Cale.
In a statement to Deadline, Johnson and Lyonne conveyed their enthusiasm for the show’s prospects, alluding to Charlie Cale’s possible comeback.
Should the show proceed, Johnson plans to recast Charlie every two seasons, allowing various actors to take on the role, similar to “Columbo” combined with “Doctor Who.”
“Poker Face” Season 2 ranked among Peacock’s top-viewed series, although it garnered lower ratings than Season 1. The series has received critical acclaim, achieving multiple Emmy nominations, with Judith Light winning Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2023.
