Scrapped Looney Tunes Film Coyote vs. Acme Finds New Life with Ketchup Entertainment
The long-delayed Looney Tunes feature Coyote vs. Acme is now officially back on course. Ketchup Entertainment has secured the global distribution rights to the film from Warner Bros., as reported by Deadline.
This announcement signals a surprising and welcomed development in a story that started in November 2023, when Warner Bros. controversially opted to shelve the finished film in favor of a tax write-off. The decision received extensive backlash and mirrored similar choices by the studio to cancel other completed projects, such as Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, raising industry-wide alarm about the prospects of completed yet unreleased films.
While Ketchup Entertainment has not yet affirmed the news on its official platforms, the company has familiarity with Looney Tunes material. It also managed the release of The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, another Warner Bros. project that was ultimately sold instead of distributed by the studio.
Coyote vs. Acme, now anticipated to debut in 2026, is a hybrid live-action/animated comedy featuring Will Forte and John Cena alongside iconic Looney Tunes characters. The narrative follows Wile E. Coyote as he seeks legal recourse against the Acme Corporation for years of flawed products. Directed by Dave Green and penned by Samy Burch (May December), the movie combines slapstick humor with a satirical courtroom storyline.
Prior efforts by Warner Bros. to sell the film to major streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon reportedly did not succeed, leaving the film’s destiny in limbo—until now.
“We’re excited to have reached an agreement with Warner Bros. Pictures to present this film to audiences globally,” stated Ketchup Entertainment CEO Gareth West in a comment to Deadline. “Coyote vs. Acme is an ideal fusion of nostalgia and contemporary storytelling, capturing the spirit of the cherished Looney Tunes characters while also introducing them to a fresh audience. We believe it will connect with both longtime enthusiasts and new viewers alike.”
With its new distributor secured, Coyote vs. Acme is finally ready to connect with audiences, offering a renewed opportunity for a film that many doubted would ever be released.
