Quinta Brunson, the talented star and creator of Abbott Elementary, made her much-anticipated return to Saturday Night Live this week, reviving the beloved “Traffic Altercation” sketch from her initial hosting appearance in 2023.
In this revised iteration of the sketch, Brunson and cast member Mikey Day portray two individuals stranded on a ferry. The scenario rapidly escalates when Day’s character confronts Brunson over a clumsily executed parking maneuver. What starts as a heated disagreement quickly devolves into a riotously exaggerated exchange, with both characters employing exaggerated movements to convey their irritation.
Chloe Fineman adds to the mayhem as Day’s daughter, attempting to support her father but only exacerbating the chaos, complicating matters for everyone involved.
The sketch concludes with a surprise cameo by Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost, who appears trying to sell a real Staten Island ferry. This references actual events—back in 2022, Jost and fellow SNL veteran Pete Davidson acquired a retired Staten Island ferry for $280,000. Jost has humorously dubbed it the “dumbest purchase” he’s ever made.
