This industry is swiftly advancing, with Google enhancing Google Home devices using Gemini AI, and both Alexa and Siri receiving major updates for the AI age. While these upgrades are happening, many individuals simply want a quick weather check. Google stands out as the top selection among our readers, boasting an 8 out of 10 satisfaction score. Amazon’s Alexa follows closely with a 7.7, while Apple lags behind at 7.2. Voice recognition and reaction to prompts

Google is the frontrunner in voice recognition per our readers’ insights. It achieved an 8.5 out of 10 rating, while Amazon scored 7.7 and Apple received 7.6. Survey participants characterized their Google Assistant-enabled devices as “dependable” and “fantastic.” One user noted that Google Assistant reliably finds answers to their inquiries.

Another Google user expressed overall satisfaction but pointed out occasional challenges with comprehension or execution of commands.

An Amazon user remarked, “In general, I have found the Alexa system to be 99.9 percent dependable. Sometimes, it overlooks a command to switch a light on or off. Its responses to inquiries beyond common knowledge aren’t strong (Google excels), but it’s sufficient for most daily tasks.” Another shared, “At times, Alexa activates, signaling it is on, but doesn’t respond to my directive.”

Beyond voice recognition, Google also performed exceptionally in answering questions and commands, receiving a score of 8 out of 10, while Amazon and Apple earned 7.1 and 7.2, respectively.

Programmable actions, routines, and automations

Insufficient respondents rated Google or Apple for programmable actions, resulting in Amazon winning by default in this segment. For routines and automation, Google is rated higher at 8.2 compared to Amazon’s 7.5.

One survey participant mentioned they prefer Alexa for routine tasks and integrations, but Google Assistant excels in answering queries.

An Alexa user described their morning routine that delivers the weather forecast, reads news headlines, and activates their office lights. They also employ Alexa to compile shopping lists, stating, “The more I utilize it, the more capabilities I discover.”

For another reader, their optimal experience with the Amazon smart assistant occurred when they configured their smart home using Alexa and “linked everything from lights to thermostats to smart plugs.” They delight in the convenience of controlling everything verbally, particularly when their hands are occupied.

A Google user commented, “Our entire home has Google displays, speakers, TVs integrated with Google TV, and third-party plugs, bulbs, and similar devices. Recently, I upgraded to a Google Mesh router. The third-party gadgets can occasionally be somewhat challenging to configure, but once operational, it’s great to manage everything directly through the Google Home app.”

Likelihood to recommend

Mashable readers are most inclined to recommend Google Assistant, achieving an 8.2 rating. Amazon Alexa follows with 7.8, while Apple’s Siri comes in at 7.1.

Google users value the option to alter the assistant’s voice, the safety and convenience that voice commands offer, Google’s music suggestions, and the overall reliability.

Siri users described the assistant as “fantastic” and said it delivers the required information.

Several Amazon users expressed that they “adore” their Alexa devices. One stated, “My family owns several different models of Alexa devices…I would recommend and am likely to purchase more Amazon Echo devices in the future.”
